Colorful Wild Radishes are Blooming All Along the Roads
Now that a few wildflowers have started to appear here in north Central Florida, there has been an explosion of beautiful yellow wild radishes (Raphanus raphanistrum) along the roadsides and in other sunny areas. Less than a week ago the only flowers around were some sad old blackjacks that survived the winter by growing in well sheltered areas. Suddenly, there are bright golden wild radishes everywhere! They have a fairly short blooming period, and the plants do tend to be a little weedy looking towards the end of that period, but by then spring will be in full swing and there will be colorful flowers everywhere. Even though this has been a pretty mild winter here, I’m always ready for spring.
