The Wonderful Spring Season Seems to Be Starting

After a couple weeks of unusually cold weather, spring seems to be getting started in central Florida. Some of our winter dormant trees are starting to get leaf buds and I’m beginning to see insects moving around again. Some of the resident birds also seem to be claiming territories and looking for mates. The cardinals are chasing each other around and acting rowdy (more so than usual) and the Carolina wrens (Thryothorus ludovicianus) are finding high perches and belting out their beautiful songs. All of these activities are very promising for the onset of spring. I will hate to see some of our avian winter visitors headed back north, but I do look forward to the return of our hummingbirds, lizards, frogs, and insects.
