Can a Beautiful Carolina Chickadee be Thoughtful?

Most of the time, Carolina chickadees (Poecile carolinensis) are little bundles of energy, flitting in and out of the trees. They often show up in loud groups, chattering back and forth to each other as they grab treats and race up into the trees to eat or stash them. But even the most active animals have to have quiet moments once in a while and I just happened to catch this one at just such a time. It had been to the feeding station several times, and it must have been full. It was alert, but quiet as it sat and it looked like it was in a pensive mood. That’s probably just me anthropomorphising; it was probably just digesting. Look at the image and decide for yourself.
