Beautiful Blue Grey Gnatcatchers Can be Found in Swamps

Blue grey gnatcatchers (Polioptila caerulea) are very active little birds that live in a variety of habitats. I have some living on my property and in the surrounding sandhills area of Gothe State Forest and I saw quite a few of them in the cypress swamp part of Sweetwater Wetland Preserve. They were flying around catching small insects in the air or sometimes from perches. They were also feasting on some sort of seeds that were growing in the scrub brush. They are not easy to photograph since they are so busy, but I did manage to get a few shots of them in the area with the gorgeous winter cypress trees in the background. They sure seemed content in that colorful, moist habitat.
