Carolina Wrens May be Little, but They are Tough
There are several of the adorable Carolina wrens (Thryothorus ludovicianus) living near my house. They are just a little handful of fluff and feathers, but they can be quite bold and are definitely territorial. Often they will find a prominent perch and sing to claim or protect their territory, but sometimes an already dominant male will just perch in one of those spots and remind the others of his status. This bird had been singing earlier, but at this point he was just perched where everyone could see him preening and surveying his realm. It’s a lot of work, but it’s good to be the king.
