Carolina Chickadees Can be Very Charming Little Birds

Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot of my time on our migratory birds since they are only here for a fairly short period, but I also don’t want to forget my faithful, ever present resident bird species. Other than the northern cardinals, I’d have to say that birds I see most often around here are the Carolina chickadees (Poecile carolinensis). They are very energetic and flit around from place to place quite frequently. Even when they eat, they usually grab an item or two and fly off to a nearby perch to actually eat. This little charmer was waiting for a larger and more dominant bird to finish before flying in to grab something. I loved the position it was posed in and you can almost see the anticipation of a tasty treat written in its eyes.
