Beautiful Honey Bees Have Been Out a Lot Lately

Honey bees (Apis mellifera) are out and about most days rain or shine. It’s important to collect pollen and nectar to support the queen and all the larval bees in the hive. That said, when certain flowers are blooming, especially if they are blooming in large numbers, bee tend to concentrate in that area, making them very easy to find. In the past month the blackjack flowers are flowering everywhere, including all over one of my birding stations. When there don’t happen to be birds around, I can always watch the bees. Today was a really beautiful, sunny day, but this cluster of flowers was in a shaded area. Just a little light was shining through the trees, and it highlighted the flower and the bee perfectly. I’d love to take credit for some artful editing, but this was all Mother Nature today.
