Colorful Flowers and Beautiful Butterflies Make Fall Great

Temperatures are finally cooling off a little around here and I took advantage of a really nice afternoon to go for a hike in Gothe State Forest. The fall wildflowers were blooming everywhere and they were attracting quite a few types of butterflies, including this gorgeous pipevine swallowtail (Battus philenor). I followed it along the trail for quite a while as it moved from one bunch of flowers to another. In this high key image, it was feeding on a nice bunch of brilliant purple dense blazing stars. It started near the bottom of the chain and worked its way along, going from flower to flower. The bright colors of the butterfly and purple hues in the flowers complimented each other perfectly and really created a perfect, peaceful fall scene.
