It Was Fun Spending Time with this Beautiful Anhinga

My last trip to Sweetwater Wetland Park was a toasty one. The high for the afternoon was 92 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity, so I set out pretty early, but it was already quite warm. I hiked and took photos for a couple of hours and I was getting tired and had drank all my water, so I decided to take a break in one of their covered pavilions. When I reached the pavilion it was already occupied by an anhinga (Anhinga anhinga), also often called a snake bird due to its long, thin, and very flexible neck. It apparently had the same idea I had; a rest in the shade. I approached slowly and slid onto the bench in the pavilion. At first, the bird was not sure it wanted to share its space, but it began to relax as we both sat quietly in the shade. I stayed for about 20 minutes, and when I headed out again the bird was dozing off, quite comfortable with my being there. I sort of hated to leave. It felt like we had formed a little bond.
