Wading Birds Feeding is Always Great Fun to Watch
I will never get tired of watching these wading birds as they feed. Each species has its own way of hunting and finding food. Watch as the roseate spoonbills (Platalea ajaja) use their wide, shovel-like bills to filter the water and muck. Those odd looking bills are highly sensitive and feel even small particles of food. The white ibis (Eudocimus albus), on the other hand wander around using their uniquely shaped bills to probe for food. The ibis also have very sensitive bills that allow them to feel rather than see their food items. Not only is it interesting to see each bird’s method of feeding, but it’s also mesmerizing to watch the rhythm of their bodies as they go about the task. Just after taking this video I had to make a run for my truck as the rain started coming down hard. If that hadn’t happened, I might have stayed there all evening.
