Coral Honeysuckle Really Glows in the Afternoon Sun

Right now there are all sorts of flowers growing and blossoming everywhere. Our Drummond’s phlox, which got off to a slow start this year, is everywhere, and now there are many others as well. The coral honeysuckle flowers (Lonicera sempervirens) are just getting started, but they are really looking lovely, and their vines are covering the fences in bunches of these brilliant red gems. I stopped the other evening on my way home from work when I noticed that some blooms were opening. I managed to catch the evening sun coming through the surrounding woods right onto a bunch of flowers and buds. I just wish I could have also caught a bee or wasp on the flowers, too. There were still a few out flying around, but none were showing much interest in the honeysuckle. I can’t complain, though. The sun alone was pretty spectacular.
