There is Nothing Cuter Than a Baby Sandhill Crane

Back at the end of March, when I went to Sweetwater Wetland Preserve with my brother and his girlfriend, one of the many birds we saw was this tiny little sandhill crane colt (Antigone canadensis) and its parents. When we first spotted them, the colt was hidden in the underbrush while the parents were out in the grass looking for food. We didn’t even realize that the colt was there at first, but as we watched the adults, it decided to come out closer to them and one of the adults went to it and fed it. As time went by, the little colt got braver, and was spending enough time out of the brush to get some photos of it. It stayed pretty close to the adults, and they were very alert to where it was and what it was doing. It was very interesting watching the three of them interacting together and interacting with their surroundings.
