Back in December this young eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) was coming to the feeding station almost every day. She must have been a late season baby because she was smaller than all the others, but she was definitely growing. Her smaller size didn’t seem to deter her. She would wait until the big, dominant female had left, but none of the others intimidated her at all. On this morning, she was enjoying her meal when she suddenly looked and right at me with this questioning look on her face. The further “hand” even looks as though she’s pointing to herself. I couldn’t help but chuckle. Of course, I realize that I was totally anthropomorphizing, and it’s likely that she heard a noise that I didn’t. It was still amusing and I thought it made a cute photo, too.
