The Colorful Green Anole is Beautiful in its Green Phase
Anoles are one of my favorite creatures, and I’m especially fond of the green anoles (Anolis carolinensis). First of all, they are true Florida natives, unlike the invasive brown anoles. They are also more colorful since they can change from bright lime green to dark green to brown depending on what they are running around on and their mood. This means that they are always interesting at their worst and gorgeous as well at their best. Earlier this week I found this beautiful male hanging out on our front porch at work. He didn’t seem very concerned about my attentions as I tried to get a few photos, and he almost seemed to be posing several times including when I shot this one. I’m sure he’s used to people and animals coming and going on that porch, so one lone photographer must have seemed like no threat at all.
