Colorful Prickly Pear Buds are Prettier Than the Flower

I absolutely love the prickly pear flowers, but I have to say that the opening buds are really nice, too. I really love the beautiful combination of yellow and green with just a touch of the light orange. Then add in the very nice textures and folds of the opening flower and you definitely have a winner. This opening bud was on the same plant that the flower was on, and it was covered in quite a few even smaller, younger buds, so it is really going to produce a lot of flowers this year. I will have to make a point of checking on it in a week or so. Not only should the cactus be gorgeous, but who knows what insects it may attract.
