Lyreleaf Sage is Another Colorful Spring Favorite

Another one of my favorite spring flowers is the lyreleaf sage (Salvia lyrata). It a member of the mint family and like many others in that family it has square stems, which I think is kind of cool, and it has a fresh, mildly minty taste. The flowers are a beautifully mottled purple with a long neck, which is a shape I find very appealing, too. Right now it’s growing all over the place, so it wasn’t hard to track some down on my afternoon hunt for rain soaked flowers. It’s a tall narrow plant and I found this straight down over the top view of it to be pretty interesting.
