Tampa Mock Vervain is a Beautiful Endangered Species

Tampa mock vervain or Tampa verbena (Glandularia tampensis) has a special place in my heart since it was one of the first endangered native Florida plant species that I was ever able to identify. I found it in a site where we were doing a floral survey for a private environmental protection company that I worked for when I first graduated from college. I was so excited to find it back then, so of course, I was also kind of excited when I found several patches of it growing around my office. Since then, I always keep my eyes open for it every spring. I also think that this plant is pretty special since it is only native to a few counties in central Florida and our county is at the northern end of its range. The fact that it is also very pretty doesn’t hurt, either.
