This Great Blue Skimmer is a Throwback to Summer
I took this photo of a male great blue skimmer (Libellula vibrans) back in the beginning of August, and I loved the patterns of the veins visible in the wings, but it definitely needed some work to help bring out the pattern. It took a while to get it to where I wanted it. I’d work on it, think it was okay and then go back the next day and see more that needed to be done. I think this is the final product, but even that could change if another idea pops into my head. The skimmers are all gone now, but they are common visitors to my farm for much of the summer. They like to hang around the dog house and hunt insects as they fly by. They’re particularly fond of nuisance insects like flies and mosquitoes, so they are always welcome here.
