Raindrops Add a Pearly Luster to Already Beautiful Flowers
This has been a rainy summer in central Florida, and with the rain comes plenty of wildflowers. And this has been a good year for wildflowers. The spring Drummond’s phlox (Phlox drummondii) with all their bright pastel colors were gorgeous. Summer showed us plenty of bright yellow Leavenworth’s tickseeds (Coreopsis leavenworthii). Now it’s time for blackjacks (Bidens pilosa), goldenrod (Solidago canadensis), and finger rot (Cnidoscolus urens). I love the small, bright white flowers on the finger rot plants, but it’s important to not touch the prickly leaves. In many people they will cause an itchy, red, uncomfortable rash which is why such a pretty flower has such an ugly name. There’s no rule about taking pictures of them, though, so after it rained one afternoon, I took advantage and shot this image.
