A Couplet of Narrow Leaf Plantains Make a Beautiful Sight
Narrow leaf plantain (Plantago lanceolata) or lamb’s tongue is one of my favorite roadside ”weeds” to photograph. It’s very hardy and was one of the few plants still thriving last year during our spring drought. It’s also thriving this summer in our heavy rains. It makes a great ground cover, and it starts flowering in the spring and continues through the fall until the first frost. The flowers are very pretty and the textures of the flower heads make them interesting subjects. This pair was growing outside in my front yard. I started to photograph a small butterfly that was feeding on them, but it flew off, and this image was the result. Most of my ”mistake” photos are blurry shots of the ground, the sky, my feet, or almost anything else no one wants a picture of, but this one actually came out pretty well!
