This Glowing Orb Weaver Made an Interesting Photo
These Mable orchard orb weavers (Leucauge mabela) are by far the most common spiders that I have around here. During the warm part of the year (which is most of the time) they can be found hanging in their beautiful orb shaped webs all over the place. This time of year they come in plenty of sizes, too. This particular spider was decent sized (about a third of an inch), but the other day my Mom found one that was almost invisible it was so small. About all you could easily see were the little, bright orange spots on it’s tiny abdomen. The spider in this photo was on my front deck, and was being illuminated by the porch light when I went outside. I really liked the way the light went through its legs and parts of the cephalothorax and made it look like it was glowing. The legs were especially pretty because of their green color.
