The Beauty is in the Details of These Colorful Feathers
One of the animals that is part of my little menagerie happens to be a yellow naped Amazon parrot. He’s a pretty cool guy in that he is a great talker and over the years he has learned some interesting things. He also does things like throw food to the dogs and menace the cats. He was a hand fed baby that I got from a client many years ago, and although she could do anything with him, it took us awhile to reach an understanding so that he doesn’t bite me. About twice a year he molts out his old feathers and replaces them with new ones. It’s a drawn out process so he never ends up bald, although he can occasionally get a little scruffy looking at the height of a molt. Sometimes the older feathers definitely look a bit worn, but other times they are quite pretty, especially his long flight feathers from his wings or his tail feathers. One evening when I went to feed him I found these two flight feathers crossed on the floor outside his cage. They were both beautifully colored feathers and in good shape, so I snapped a few photos. I especially like this one because of the way it shows the details of the individual strands that go into making up an entire feather. I hope you like it too!
