Sun rays are spilling out from behind the clouds both above and below them. Some other fluffy clouds and a bird can also be seen in the sky. Each year on October 25, we celebrate International Artist’s Day. This celebration was started in 2004, by Canadian visual artist, Chris McClure, and has since taken off, involving artists and art admirers all over the world. October 25 was chosen since it is the birth date of the famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso in 1881. Each year International Artist’s Day celebrates creativity and artistic talent, and it’s important contribution to society. After all, artistic expression has been around since long before the written or spoken word. Even in these very early days art was a means to communicate, record history, and express emotions.

International Artist’s Day was established to help recognize the hard work and huge contributions that artists make to this world. The title “artist” can be used to describe people who work in many different media types including painting, photography, writing, music, sculpture, architecture, poetry, digital art, cinema, and many, many more. Artwork expresses the world as seen through the eyes of artists and records the beauty of our world, as well as aspects of our history and culture both good and bad. And sometimes art can function as an escape from the more unpleasant aspects of our world. This day also celebrates the creative spirit that resides in each and every one of us at some level.

The thicker parts of the frond are a deep green, while the thinner areas have a yellowish green hue.](https://i0.wp.com/whatnext10.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/FD27E40C-5A57-4AA5-833B-E07B8D003698-830x1024.jpeg?resize=830%2C1024&ssl=1)
There are plenty of ways that someone can celebrate International Artist’s Day. Many art museums are holding special exhibitions and allowing people in for free or reduced prices. Perhaps if you have been looking for a piece of art for your home or office, today would be a good day to buy it. There are also virtual exhibits being presented by artists and art venues all over the world. Many communities and art groups have also organized art festivals and celebrations in local parks and convention centers. Another way to celebrate would be to embark on a creative journey of your own. Why not take the plunge and take those lessons you’ve been considering or start that novel you’ve always wanted to write. You can also support the arts by making a donation to a local art or theater group. Or better yet, volunteer some time helping them out.

So to all my artistic friends out there, have an amazing International Artist’s Day and keep creating! This year’s theme is “you are not alone”. Always keep that in mind as you continue your creative journey.
